This is the eleventh year that the Chamber will honor three outstanding local businesses in the small, medium and large business categories that have demonstrated exemplary growth and made a significant contribution to the Chamber and community in the past year.

Golfers needed. The 15th annual FORE Cy-Fair Golf Tournament will be held at Longwood Golf Club Monday, October 17, with an 11:30 a.m. scramble-shotgun start. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Putting contests and lunch will be available prior to the shotgun start. Dinner and awards will be at 5:00 p.m.

Sponsors needed. Several area companies have stepped up to the tee, sponsoring FORE. North Cypress Medical Center serves as Lone Star Sponsorship and Caldwell Companies is the Huffmeister Sponsor. A wide variety of sponsorship opportunities ranging from $1,000 to $7,500 are still available.

To shine the spotlight on the strong home-and-community roots of the area, the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce is hosting a raffle of a unique playhouse designed and built by area homebuilder Eagle Rock Homes. The playhouse, on display at HEB Cypress Market, 24224 Northwest Freeway Cypress, beginning Friday, July 1, will be raffled by the Chamber as a fund-raiser, benefitting the Chamber and Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County.  “Raising funds in the summer is always a challenge for non-profit organizations so giving a portion of the proceeds to Habitat NWHC seemed a natural fit.” said Cy-Fair Houston Chamber President Mary Evans. “It is our hope the playhouse fund-raiser will be something the community can get involved with and help raise funds at the same time.”

Eagle Rock Homes designs playhouse with a man-cave theme

Eagle Rock Homes, 8618 Redstone Hills Drive Cypress, TX specializes in one and two story homes with unique, detached and customizable 2-story garage floor plans. These mega-sized garages are oftentimes referred to as ‘man-caves’ so it is fitting that Eagle Rock designed, built and donated this scaled down replica of their ‘man-cave’ garage to support the Cy-fair Houston Chamber summer fund-raising campaign.  Mack Davis, president and owner of Eagle Rock homes said, “We customize our garage floor-plans to be used as media rooms, home offices, home gyms, apartments and ‘man-caves’, so we thought it would be a fun challenge to build a playhouse version of our popular 2-story garage.” Davis added, “during the construction phase of the chamber playhouse project, many visitors to our subdivision have expressed an interest in having a playhouse “thrown in” if they purchase a home so we will offer to build a playhouse for all new home buyers during the months of July and August 2011.” Some restrictions apply so please contact Eagle Rock Homes for additional details on their playhouse/purchase offer at (832)381-6130.

The ‘little man-cave’ features a kid-sized roll-up garage door, 3 screened-working glass windows, garage flooring, peg- board paneling, an upper loft area and a bonus, color-coordinated outdoor picnic table. To make sure the new owner can properly equip the ‘cave’ the builder is including a $100 gift certificate to Toys-R-Us. Eagle Rock Homes currently builds in The Groves section of Canyon Lakes West subdivision off Fry Road just north of FM 529. Visitors to the builder’s model homes during the month of July will also have a chance to win raffle tickets for the Little Man Cave on display at HEB.

Raffle TICKETS are on sale for $5 each or five for $20 and can be purchased at the HEB Cypress Market, Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.. Raffle tickets will also be available online at www.cyfairchamber.com. Tickets will be on sale beginning Friday, July 1 through Sunday, July 31. Winner will be announced on August 1.

Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County – (www.habitatnwhc.org) Since its inception Habitat Northwest Harris County (NWHC) has built more than 150 homes providing housing for more than 600 individuals. As of 2011 Habitat NWHC had built 4 subdivisions: Carrell Manor, Cherie Cove, Lancaster and Hampton Place. Construction commenced in March 2009 on the fifth subdivision, Hamill Ranch. When completed, Hamill Ranch will house 42 families.

Every day, hundreds of thousands of people travel up and down US 290 between Loop 610 and FM 2920 in Waller. In the future, thousands more will join in that traffic flow because the population growth rate of the Houston region is exploding.

Work on this first contract, known as Project K, includes constructing an inbound direct connector from US 290 and the IH 610 North Loop to IH 10 Katy Freeway, thus eliminating the traffic weaving currently present on the IH 610 West Loop southbound mainlanes. In addition, workers will reconstruct the IH 610 North Loop from Ella to the US 290/IH 610 interchange. Construction is expected to begin this summer and be completed early 2015.
