Chamber to Sponsor “Bus Buddies” Program for Cy-Fair ISD Kindergarten and First Graders
Cy-Fair Chamber President Darcy Mingoia announced today that the Chamber has adopted the Cy-Fair ISD “Bus Buddies” program for the first week of school classes, August 27-31.
Last school year, several local businesses participated in a pilot program to assist kindergarten and first grade students off the buses at their assigned home stop. The “Bus Buddies” assisted the bus drivers and insured that all students were safely delivered to their correct bus stop. The pilot was very successful for the school district but also, well-received and enjoyable for the business participants according to Cy-Fair ISD’s Partners in Education Coordinator Pam Scott.
The Chamber is asking members and other volunteers to commit to riding the school buses at their local elementary school every afternoon for the first week of classes. The time commitment would be approximately two hours, between 2:45-4:45 pm.
Volunteers are required to attend a training session and to provide their drivers license to be processed through V-soft.
“Not only are our members helping our youngest students get home safely but we are also making a strong statement supporting our schools and the work they do to educate our young people,“ Mingoia explained.
If you would like to participate in the “Bus Buddies” program, please contact at Scott at 281.894.3950 or pamela.scott@cfisd.net.

HPD Beat Station Opens in Willowbrook Area
Business and community leaders worked for the last five years to bring a more visible presence of the City of Houston Police Department to the Willowbrook Area. Their efforts were rewarded on Thursday morning as Captain Carl Driskill and City Council Person Toni Lawrence (pictured above), cut the ribbon on the new beat station facility located at 17375 Tomball Parkway, Suite 2B -1.
The facility will be opened seven days a week, 8 am – 5 pm and will be available for use by neighboring policing agencies including the officers of the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 and the Sheriff’s Department.
The facility was made possible by the generous donations of a number of local businesses including CBL who donated the space and build out in the Willowbrook Plaza shopping center. Willowbrook Mall and Methodist Willowbrook Hospital provided funds for signage and other necessary products and services. Hewlett Packard Company donated office furnishings and the Sears Home Appliance Store at Highway 290 and Spring Cypress donated a refrigerator.
Willowbrook Area Super Neighborhood and the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce were instrumental in coordinating the donations.
